SETH FAIRWEATHER

Seth Fairweather is making a name for himself as one of the most unique glass artists in the country. He grew up in rural New York, just a stone’s throw from New York City, and credits the dynamic art scene there with much of his early interest in provocative thought—although art was not something that interested him in his early days. In college, while he was debating veterinary medicine or neurosurgery, he took a glass-blowing class to fill an art requirement. From that moment on, he was hooked.

Fairweather graduated magna cum laude and with honors from New York State College of Ceramics School of Art and Design at Alfred University, and went on to obtain his MFA from Tyler School of Art. Today, he spends much of his time delving into his own imagination. His work, characterized as contemporary and industrial, but never fitting solidly inside a specific box, often includes figures of people in creations of metal and glass. It is meant to invoke conversations, particularly about the absence of individual thought in today’s society. Fairweather’s creations are powerful and provocative, and truly original.
